Lagra havregryn länge

Havregryn innehåller fett som kan härskna vid lagring men det är bra mat, gröt alltså, därför vill jag kunna ha lite havregryn i lager. Försommaren 2013 gjorde jag ett experiment, jag hällde havregryn i en 5 l plastdunk, la i en handvärmare – den skulle fungera som syreätare – och skruvade igen locket.

Idag, 3 år och tre månader senare har jag gjort gröt av grynen och ätit den. Den smakade finfint, åsikten delas av min fru och min hund. Enligt förpackningen var BF-datum för grynen under första halvan av 2014 så de är alltså mer än två år förbi BF-datum utan bismak av något slag.

Grynen har lagrats i en plastdunk som är livsmedelsgodkänd, vinglas- och gaffelsymbol instämplad i botten, som stått i jordkällaren sedan maj 2013.

Så det fungerar bra att lagra havregryn länge. 😀

Att handvärmaren tagit upp syre styrks av att den vägrade avge någon värme då jag tog ut den ur dunken trots knådning och trots att jag fuktade den.

Jag kände mig lite tveksam till handvärme i kombination med mat men det är ingen fara. Handvärmaren innehåller

• Järn
• Vattten
• Vermiculite
• Aktivt kol
• Salt

Vermiculite är det enda jag känt mig tveksam till men det är ett mineral som ska vara ofarligt att äta – i måttliga mängder förstås.

Man kan ju hoppas…

…att det inte blir något av med TTIP. Förhandlingarna har gått i stå och representanter från flera regeringar uttrycker tvivel på att avtalet går igenom. Den som vill kan protestera mot TTIP i någon av de demonstrationer som går av stapeln lördagen den 17 september. Det finns, som jag ser det, flera allvarliga problem med TTIP, ett par av dem handlar om klimat och att det så mycket om avtalet döljs. Men det finns mycket mer, arbetsrättsliga frågor, tveksamheter kring produktsäkerhet – i synnerhet när det gäller mat och hot mot demokratiska principer.

Neonikotinoider och vildbin

A major 18-year study has found evidence linking controversial ”neonicotinoid” pesticides with “large-scale population extinctions” of wild bees for the first time.

Neonikotinoider används i hög grad i rapsodling. Bin och humlor gillar raps men far riktigt illa av bekämpningsmedlet. En liten anekdot: Jag var ute och gick i skogen för ett par dagar sedan och förvånades över hur många döda humlor det låg på stigen. Känns sådär.

Peak (cheap) oil 2005, oväntade effekter.

Gail Tverberg på Our finite world skriver ännu ett av sina pedagogiska inlägg. Den här gången om PO (peak oil) och vad som tänkts (fel) och hur det ser ut att utveckla sig istället.

The amount of oil (or for that matter, any other resource) isn’t a fixed amount. If the price can be made to rise to a very high level, the quantity that can be extracted will also tend to rise–in fact, by a rather large amount. The “catch” is that wages for the vast majority of workers don’t rise at the same time. As a result, goods made with high-priced oil soon become too expensive for workers to afford, and the economy falls into recession. The result is prices that fall below the cost of production. Thus, the limit on oil supply is not the amount of oil in the ground; instead, it is how high oil prices can rise, without causing serious recession.

Det fortsätter att bli varmare

Notable findings from the report include:

Greenhouse gases were the highest on record. Major greenhouse gas concentrations, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and nitrous oxide, rose to new record high values during 2015. The 2015 average global CO2 concentration was 399.4 parts per million (ppm), an increase of 2.2 ppm compared with 2014.

Global surface temperature was the highest on record. Aided by the strong El Niño, the 2015 annual global surface temperature was 0.76–0.83 degrees F (0.42°–0.46°C) above the 1981–2010 average, surpassing the previous record set in 2014.

Sea surface temperature was the highest on record. The globally averaged sea surface temperature was 0.59–0.70 degrees F (0.33°–0.39°C) above average, breaking the previous mark set in 2014.

Global upper ocean heat content highest on record. Upper ocean heat content exceeded the record set in 2014, reflecting the continuing accumulation of heat in the ocean’s top layers.

Global sea level rose to a new record high in 2015. It measured about 2.75 inches (70 mm) higher than that observed in 1993, when satellite record-keeping for global sea level rise began.

Tropical cyclones were well above average, overall. There were 101 tropical cyclones total across all ocean basins in 2015, well above the 1981-2010 average of 82 storms. The eastern/central Pacific had 26 named storms, the most since 1992. The North Atlantic, in contrast, had fewer storms than most years during the last two decades.

The Arctic continued to warm; sea ice extent remained low. The Arctic land surface temperature in 2015 was 2.2 degrees F (1.2°C) above the 1981-2010 average, tying 2007 and 2011 as the highest on record. The maximum Arctic sea ice extent reached in February 2015 was the smallest in the 37-year satellite record, while the minimum sea ice extent that September was the fourth lowest on record.

Nederbördsförändringar 2010-2040

Det verkar som att nederbörden kommer att flytta sig som prognosticerat och det är inte bra. Om några år riskerar det att bli tydligare märkbart.

Now a new study in the journal Nature provides some of the first evidence that this widely-predicted phenomenon – the movement of clouds and rainfall from the mid-latitudes towards the North and South poles — is already taking place. Just like the retreat of glaciers and polar sea ice, now clouds and rain are retreating poleward.
